This blog will be a site to log all the gaming and testing I do and show what needs to be changed in many games. Plus I will put whatever chapters I write for my book in here!

Since the alpha is only a little ways out, I was wondering what everyone was planning on playing it (or the beta, or the final version ) on?

¿How long does it take to get all the cool perks?

on Mar 20, 2014

Dunno, seems it was pretty much instant for me. How long since you made the purchase? Maybe someone at Stardock needs to manually activate your Elite founder account.

five or ten minutes. It said it might take one business day. But I did hear that the badge was instant. I even logged out.

I think I'll wait a hour or so.

Did you use this account to do the purchase? If so, it'll show up at some point.

My Specs

Purchased 2009

Windows 7 home premium

Intel i7 920 @2.67GHz

6 GB Memory

1TB Samsung  HDD

1GB ATI Radeon HD4800

2 x 23" Led monitors.

I need to upgrade!

Do I

a) Upgrade my GFX card and purchase a SSD drive to speed it up.

or

buy a new system,  looking at http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/view/Vortex-1000-gaming-pc/  spec/ price wise.

If b, what do I do with my current system?

Under a:

You are undoubtedly going to get a lot of recommendations, many of which will be to go as high end as you can. Add to that that we fans really don't know what demands the game is going to put on our PCs just yet, all any of us can do about minimum requirements is to guess. Here is my minimum guess:

I am not sure about the GFX card, but I suspect you may be just a little short on main memory. Since they have not specified any minimum memory size, I am guessing that you would be better off upgrading to 8GB. Also, I think your Samsung hard drive will have enough capacity at 1TB unless you have a huge amount of stuff on it already. I usually try not to fill my HD over about 1/2 full, because I have had troubles defragging it if it gets fuller than that (please note that this is only a personal experience and opinion).

Under b:

When I looked at what is shown at the link you gave, I noticed a possible "gotcha" that I have difficulty believing they would subject anyone to: At the top under the "specification snapshot" they list only one hard drive, with a capacity of only 120 GB. Lower under the options they list 2 drives, one from the snapshot and a 2nd hard drive with a 1TB capacity. The 120 GB alone is not going to be enough, so make sure you get a second drive.

As to disposing your current system, if that is what you are asking, check with where you plan to order your new PC for any assistance they may have for recycling it.

The HD4800 will be really holding you back as far as most newer games are concerned. The biggest bottleneck in your system is that video card. If I were you I would go for A and get a decent video card, it will feel like a brand new computer when playing games.

For people who do not want to spend too much I recommend going on the second hand market for a video card upgrade ( Ebay, craiglist etc ). There are good deals to be had usually if you search a bit.  Some people are selling once mighty cards that cannot be had new anymore but are still faster than the new budget models. Sometimes you can find them at a steal.

For exemple, it seems you can get a GTX 480 1.5 gb for between 75-100$ on ebay. That card is nearly 4x faster then what you have and will outperform the brand new budget models such as GTX 750 ti, that would cost nearly twice as much.

Some people insist on buying new as it is safer but great deal can be had on the second hand market if you have the gutz.

If you go for full system replacement, consider selling parts on ebay to get some money out of your old system. This is what I do. But check how things are worth first. Some system parts are not worth as much as you would think, and some are worth more than you would think.

Time to win the piece of shit award to my computer because I got my computer for free.

An Acer brand computer (I don't give a shit because it was free)

Windows 7 Premium 64bit

Intel Pentium inside

A non upgradable motherboard (There is no reason to find out what it is)

It is cooled by a small fan combined with outdoor temperatures (Where I live not long ago it was -50 degrees C outside. For my future supercomputer I can afford to cheap out on cooling supplies till the summer)

ATX mini (wasn't designed to be upgraded)

no dedicated graphics or sound cards

4GB ram

Broadband internet does not exist where I live, so thank god I don't pay for utilities and the miracles of space objects.

Everything else is not worth mentioning.

All i can say is I can run Planetside 2, SOASE max GFX, Civilization V with all DLC ONLINE, TF2, and other titles because I don't care about graphics.

Also I think it has a SSD, but then again it probably is the best thing on this rig.

Hey I'm looking for a good graphics card to. Something that can be good with a i5 7xx processor? I also don't know anything about graphics cards but I've really educated myself since we last spoke.

If you run DxDiag you can get more information about your system. You really need to let us know what model CPU and display card you have before we can give you any help, and DxDiag will give that to you.
